Correctional Officer

The Placer County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for Correctional Officer I, Correctional Officer II, and Lateral Correctional Officer.

Correctional Officer I

$64,875 - $81,016/year

This classification will receive a 4% salary increase effective July 2024. Significant incentives and additional pays are available including Uniform Allowance, Shift Differential, Bilingual Pay, Canine Handler Pay, and Cell Extraction Response Team Pay.

This is the entry level for our Correctional Officer classifications and does not require previous corrections or law enforcement experience. You will be provided with on-the-job training from experienced officers working in our correctional facilities and be expected to successfully handle all aspects of the journey level within 12 months of appointment.

Correctional Officer II

FY 23-24: $71,490 - $97,032/year*

FY 24-25: $74,349 - $100,605/year*

This classification will receive a 4% salary increase effective July 2024. Significant incentives and additional pays are available including Uniform Allowance, Shift Differential, Bilingual Pay, Canine Handler Pay, and Cell Extraction Response Team Pay.

This is the journey level for our Correctional Officer classifications and requires a minimum of 2 years previous corrections experience as well as the completion of the entry level core training as required by Title 15 of the Corrections Standards Authority and the course work required by State Penal Code Section 832. Initial on the job training will be provided on our agency procedures and policies; however, you will be expected to successfully handle all aspects of the journey level by the end of the on-the-job training period, estimated to be 8 weeks for experienced officers.

Correctional Officer II PAEL

$71,489 - $89,315/year

*This classification will receive 4% salary increases effective July 2024. Additionally, significant incentives and additional pays are available including Uniform Allowance, Shift Differential, Bilingual Pay, Canine Handler Pay, Cell Extraction Response Team Pay

This position is open for experienced correctional officers currently working a full-time position in the field of corrections or having held a full-time position within the last 12 months by a public agency operating under certain circumstances. Applicants that meet this criterion will be eligible for an expediated recruitment process, otherwise known as the Public Agency Eligibility List – PAEL.

This is the journey level for our Correctional Officer classifications and requires a minimum of 2 years’ previous corrections experience as well as the completion of the entry level core training as required by Title 15 of the Corrections Standards Authority and the course work required by State Penal Code Section 832. Available Incentives to Qualified Employees:

  • Uniform Allowance: $1,065 per fiscal year

  • Bilingual pay: Additional 5%

  • Canine Pay: $300 per month

  • Cell Extraction Response Team: $125 per month

  • Inmate Oversight Pay: Additional 5%

  • Jail Assignment Pay: Additional 5%

  • Night Shift Differential Pay: Additional 7.5%
